Today's Art Smart features Kate MacDowell. Her porcelain sculptures never cease to amaze and slightly unnerve me. In stark contrast to the purity and daintiness that the white porcelain in which she bases her sculptures from, she showcases and dwells on the gruesome. She has a knack for making something pretty but mundane such as the human heart and then adds say a bunch of teeny tiny spiders all over the organ instantly making you feel a phantom itch in your chest area.
You guys should check out her website as well since all of her works are outstanding and simply whimsical.
