Art Smart: Halloween Train

It's been like a million years since I last posted an Art Smart. But now I'm back with the Japanese Chooo San! She uses acrylic paint to well paint  very disturbing pieces on bodies. I stumbled upon her works while looking for halloween costume ideas online and I must say I'm very glad I did. Her paintings are so realistic and so whack and so very very very disturbing...perfect for halloweenieee!!

Art Smart: Pakayla The Photo Painter

Pakayla Biehn mixes photography and painting together by taking double exposed photos and well, painting them! On a thumbnail, they look like photographs but up close you could see the strokes her paintbrush made. She also dabbles on hyper realism painting which basically is the act of tryna make your paintings look like pictures. Ahh this has been an old recurring fantasy of mine; to be able to make such realistic paintings that theyd be mistaken as photos huhu.

Her paintings are so beautiful and she herself is very pretty + she seems nice + her name is really cool heehee. What's not to like about her?

Art Smart: Alien Hair Salon Catalog Artist

I love my hair. I am now growing it out so I could have tresses like Miley Cyrus..or possibly a mermaid. When I first started out drawing, I had quite a hard time drawing hair. I wanted and tried so hard to capture the shiny-ness, the flow-yness and the softness. Enter Winnie Truong! Before I watched the videos on youtube about drawing hair and all, I used to stare at her works and just try to decipher how she manages to make the hair look so dang realistic.

But what sets her drawings apart, is that theyre just downright..weird. To the point that I found them a wee bit disturbing! They remind me so much of the illustrations in Black Hole the comic book mehehe. I can imagine these drawings as a part of some alien salon hair catalog thingy.

Art Smart: Mary With Her Zombies And Fuglycorns

I may have found my idol in the form of Mary Doodles. She is everything in my opinion that is awesome in this world all rolled into one kickass artist. I'm not really a fan of doodling and doodles but her works have instantly become an exception! She's famous on youtube for her doodles and for the costumes that she makes for Epic Rap Battle hihi.

Looking at her colorful works is such a breath of fresh air from all the weird and disturbing works I have been surrounded by lately. Plus, her fondness for zombies just made her a million times cooler than she was in the first place if that was possible hehe. Go check out her blog and videos if you want an instant cheer up-er!

Art Smart: Waking Up The Babysitters Club

Here are a few jaw-dropping works by Jeff Ramirez for you guys! I know jaw-dropping is such a cheesy adjective but I seriously think these paintings, (yes, they aren't photographs!) deserve the said describing word plus a few more. Upon first glance on his works, my childhood Scholastic book covers came to mind. Books  like The Babysitters Club to be exact!! As much as I looooved the series, I tend to secretly judge a book by its cover like I'd read the one with the prettiest cover first before the other mediocre ones hihi. It's just that the covers reminded me so much of the old movie houses in Manila that had hand painted movie posters, movie houses which I have never set foot in huhu. So here we go, if you're a fan as well, let us take the time and fantasize about how cool it'd be if Ann M. Martin started writing more books with these paintings as covers!

Art Smart: Vector-y Is His

Taking a break from all the traditional art, I'm here to present to you guys Enkel Dika to satisfy your digital illustration cravings. Some of you would probably notice him and his works from 9GAG. The fact that this guy got praises on that site just goes to show that he kicks butt when it comes to his artworks! His works have also been frequently printed on numerous shirts sold under Threadless which can be considered as the home of funny shirts or the more awesome version of the Philippines' Artwork. There are a ton of witty meanings and double entendre to his pop-culture themed designs which in my opinion makes viewing them a lot more fun and gives you the satisfaction of feeling a wee bit smart for getting the hidden jokes in his art hehe.

By far my favorite! Check out how he made the nuclear plant look like a sinister castle!!

Art Smart: Little Miss Macabre

Today's Art Smart features Kate MacDowell. Her porcelain sculptures never cease to amaze and slightly unnerve me. In stark contrast to the purity and daintiness that the white porcelain in which she bases her sculptures from, she showcases and dwells on the gruesome. She has a knack for making something pretty but mundane such as the human heart and then adds say a bunch of teeny tiny spiders all over the organ instantly making you feel a phantom itch in your chest area.

You guys should check out her website as well since all of her works are outstanding and simply whimsical.

Art Smart: Mother Monster's Very Eccentric Uncle

At first glance they freaked me out big time. At second glance they reminded me of the creepy bald thing from Pan's Labyrinth with the eyeball encrusted hands. At third glance I found them oddly pretty and just had to let other people know about the genius that is Olivier de Sagazan.

I still don't possess much knowledge about him and his works but I do know that they are very very intriguing. I thought his passion was solely for painting but I was sorely (hehe) mistaken when I stumbled upon a video of his slightly disturbing live performance.

If you didn't watch the video, go back up and watch it! Even if you don't finish it haha. Ahhh the sounds that he makes when he struggles to breathe in and the weird stuff that he chants are just so primal that it sends a shiver down my spine! I'm still figuring out if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

If Lady Gaga is Mother Monster, I can say that Olivier de Sagazan can might as well be dubbed Mother Monster's very eccentric uncle.
