The Perks of Having Chicken Pox by Gab Mesina

October 5, 2012

Dear friend,

I found a bubble with water inside on my hand. I popped it. It felt really good. I found one on my back as well. I hope I don't have bacne.

After watching the King and I, we went to go eat. I was feeling cold so I buried my fingers in my hair. I felt two bumps behind my ear. They were slightly painful. I was mildly disturbed. I showed them to my family. They got grossed out which in turn made my skin crawl. Images of bot flies flashed in my mind and it was such a good thing that my sister told me that she couldn't see any 'eye' or holes in which any hypothetical bot fly could enter through.

Love always,
Gab

Dear friend,

Jazz, Matthew, Russ, John Nhoel, Pau and I met up today for our ABR thing. On the bus to Manila, Nhoel and I talked about chicken pox and UAAP and German measles. I then had a splitting head ache. We rode the LRT to Tayuman and were met by Russ. I showed them the grotesque looking crater on my hand and once again, we talked about chicken pox. Russ told us about how he was advised to eat eggs to activate he virus and stuff. I got scared cos I did not want to be a human grape. The thought of me having the pox was pushed aside as we worked on our research stuff.

On the way home, I fell asleep on the bus since my head felt like it was gonna break in half. I drifted in and out of consciousness (I've always wanted to use that phrase hehe) and through my blurry eyes, I saw that the bus was cramped with people. When I finally woke up for good, I could feel the other passengers looking at me (perhaps because I have yet again slept with my mouth wide open), I frantically looked for my phone since my last memory was of me texting. I seriously thought I got robbed. I almost asked the people beside me if they saw anything when I had the good sense to look for it inside my bag. It was there, alright. After breathing a sigh of relief, I looked out the window to see where I was at.

I. Was. Lost. Well not lost per se, but I sure did miss my stop. I was worrying and wondering if I was past SM Southmall, the next stop or not. Apparently, I wasn't (thank God). I got off at SM and tried not to panic. It really sucked since I just woke up at that time and everything was happening so quickly. I called my mum and they picked me up.

We went straight to the hospital and after sitting in the ER for a while, we got ushered to a pediatrician. Dr. Chang was really nice. I really liked his very chill persona hehe. After showing him my hand and my back, he confirmed everyone's suspicions. I had chicken pox. After all that, we asked about the bumps behind my ear. He felt around and had a very puzzled look on his face. He told us that it was like a bone or something  because it was hard but he couldn't be sure. The bumps are still under observation.

I ate a ton of left over lechon for dinner since it was a coincidence that our viands were all not for me like chicken and seafood. After dinner, I got all the feels in the world with the people and my butt started to itch. I drank my medicines and was soon off to a peaceful slumber.

Love always,
Gab

Dear friend,

Today is Russ's birthday. We were supposed to have our Physics project making here at mi casa but since I am deemed contagious, the plans have been remade and they had it at Russ's instead. I have done nothing but watch High School Musical videos (with lyrics mind you) on youtube and eat. The dots on my back have multiplied tremendously and I now have a couple on my face.

The dots. I swear in this moment. They are infinite.

Love always,
Gab
